Perdita unfolds in the tempestuous landscapes of Canada’s Great Lakes and amidst an historian’s search for the oldest living people on the planet. The tale centers on Marged Brice, her claim to be 134-years-old, and a diary of her coming-of-age at the Cape Prius Lighthouse during the 1890s. Marged’s alleged longevity, however, is not a miracle of nature alone. A ghostly, gothic child—perhaps drowned in an 1898 shipwreck—shadows the boundary between life and death, and seemingly impedes her from passing on.

• “Scharper shines in this surprising and engaging gothic novel… Impeccably researched and beautifully told, this is a tale that will stay with readers long after the final page is turned.” Publishers Weekly starred review
