Hilary Scharper is a Canadian novelist who writes ecogothic fiction. Her current project embraces the “Canadian uncanny”—a series of (mysteriously) water-ly stories unfolding on each of Canada’s Great Lakes. She is Writer-in-Residence at the Canadian Ecology Centre, Mattawa, Ontario.
“A normal lake is knowable. A Great Lake can hold all the mysteries of an ocean, and then some.” – Dan Egan, The Death and Life of the Great Lakes, 2017.
Hilary is also a professor at the University of Toronto. Her interests encompass forest ethnography, animal studies and more-than-human ethnography.
